Sponsored by the Oregon State University Extension Service and the Douglas County Master Gardeners, the Discovery Garden is in the initial stages of development. The goal is to provide a year-round educational garden and teaching facility. Open to the public, the garden is located near River Forks Park. Take I-5 exit #125 and head west on Garden Valley Boulevard, following the signs to River Forks Park.

Since 1993, the Roseburg Sister Cities program has sponsored exchange visits with Shobu, Japan. The Japanese-American Friendship Garden is located between the Douglas County Library and Deer Creek. It is an ongoing project honoring the Sister Cities program. In addition, gifts given to Roseburg as part of an annual Gift Exchange are on display at Roseburg City Hall. A bronze sculpture of a mother horse and her colt was created by Shobu artist Toshio Ogino and is located in front of City Hall. An identical statue stands in Shobu.

The VA Medical Center Rose Garden is the site of a Blue Star Memorial Marker. The Blue Star Memorial Highway project was begun in 1945 to serve as a living memorial to all men and women who served or are serving in the armed forces. A blue star is the centerpiece of the memorial plaque and symbolizes the blue star service flag that hung in the windows of homes during World War II. The Rose Garden memorial marker, dedicated in September 2000, is the 45th Blue Star Marker in Oregon. The VA Medical Center is located off I-5 at exit #125. Another Blue Star Memorial Marker is at the Glide Community Center.

Located at the Roseburg Regional Airport - Major General Marion E. Carl Memorial Airfield. The memorial was dedicated on June 12, 1999 to honor General Carl, one of our country's most decorated war veterans and an honored aviator. Visitors from throughout the nation attended the dedication. During World War II, General Carl became the first Marine flying ace. Altogether he downed 18 enemy planes. He twice won the Navy Cross and was awarded four Distinguished Flying Crosses and 14 Air Medals. During his 34 years with the Marine Corps General Carl logged 14,000 flight hours and piloted 260 different types of aircraft. In July 2001, Carl was enshrined in the National Aviation Hall of Fame in Dayton, Ohio. The airport is just east of I-5 from exit 125 or 127.

This outdoor art collection has become a pleasing attraction for visitors and a source of pride for local residents since the first murals were painted in 1991. Now more than a dozen murals are featured on buildings in downtown Roseburg. Mural subjects include Roseburg's early retail merchants and landmarks, Douglas County's timber resources, agricultural products and scenic attractions, and the Applegate Trail. Elkton Oregon's Butterfly Pavilion, come observe Butterfly life and cycle, walk in the park among Oregon trees and shrubs and simply enjoy the gardens.  The Butterfly Pavilion is located at 15850 Highway 38 West in Elkton.  From Roseburg travel north on I-5 to exit 136, take Hwy 138 west to Elkton.

This stately American Elm has stood watch over the Douglas County Courthouse for some 100 years. A designated Oregon Heritage Tree, the elm was a gift from former U.S. Congressman Binger Hermann. Photos from 1902 show a young elm about 6-8 feet tall, but the exact date of its planting is unknown. A marker is at the site.

In the early morning hours of August 7, 1959, Roseburg's downtown area was rocked by a blast that forever changed the face of the businesses and homes within a 30 block radius. The explosion, created when a parked truck loaded with dynamite and ammonium nitrate caught fire, left a crater fifty-two feet in diameter and twelve feet deep. Fourteen people died in "The Blast", as the explosion is commonly known. The Walking Tour documents the visible changes to downtown Roseburg. The Blast Monument, located on the west side of Pine Street between Oak Avenue and Washington Avenue, marks the Blast site. Pick up your Walking Tour Map at the Roseburg Visitors Center.
